2D Jury

James Copeland

James Copeland received a BA in Professional Photography from Brooks Institute of Photography with majors in Photographic Illustration and Color Technology. After graduation I enjoyed a 30 year career with Lathem/Copeland Photography and later Jim Copeland Photography working with advertising agencies creating photography for national accounts. In 2006 he transitioned to fine art photography showing and selling his photography at fine art shows across the U.S.

Susan Grill Joss

Having attended Carnegie-Mellon University, Philadelphia College of Art, and Portfolio Center I have spent my life working as a painter, graphic designer, illustrator, interior designer, and teacher. Along the way I have continued my studies with numerous painters, with an emphasis on figurative painting and portraiture.

My goal is to translate the social context of narratives into emotional imagery. Photographic reference is pivotal to my work. I am drawn to the immediacy and informality of snapshots. When photographing my subjects, I am entering their world, both external and internal. We talk. We share stories. We build trust. Poses emerge naturally during our time together, allowing for the opportunity to capture an unguarded moment.

Sifting through the photos gives me the chance to see them anew. I make drawings from a number of the photos to see where the narrative starts to emerge. This forms the basis for the portrait. My intention is my connection with my subject, not the painting.

Dana Munson

Dana Munson is an Atlanta Artist and Art Educator. For the past 24 years, she taught all levels from Kindergarten through Adults. Currently she is teaching at Riverwood HS in Sandy Springs. She is a graduate of Ga State University with degrees in Art History and Art Education. She also holds a Master’s degree in Education. As an artist, she is trained in Drawing and Painting, but also loves Printmaking, Graphics, Filmmaking, and Ceramics. Dana has exhibited her work in the Atlanta area and is currently creating artwork that celebrates her East Atlanta Village neighborhood. Over her 24 years of education, her art students have exhibited in Atlanta, around Georgia, and nationally. As an artist and art educator, her driving goal is to share her love of art with any and all, in hopes to nurture our next generations of artists and art appreciators.

Jessyca Holland

Jessyca has over sixteen years working in the arts and culture field. In 2010, Jessyca co-founded C4 Atlanta, a nationally recognized non-profit arts service organization. During her tenure at C4, Jessyca built and managed programs that reached thousands of artists each year. In addition to her nonprofit work, Jessyca advocates for artists, the arts field, and for community development that spurs economic resilience, nurtures healthy communities, and promotes equity. Jessyca holds a BA in Theatre, A Masters of Library Media, and is currently a Master of Public Administration (focus area: Planning & Economic Development) graduate candidate. In 2021, Jessyca founded Opportunity Arts, a firm to support the American creative economy.

Cheryl Linn Myrbo

Atlanta artist Cheryl Myrbo owned a pottery business in Minnesota in the 1980’s and was awarded a patent on a drinking vessel design in 1985. She moved to Atlanta to study painting and graduated from the Atlanta College of Art with Honors in 1997. The Myrbo series, “Circus: Costume, Prop, and Baggage,” was displayed in Atlanta’s downtown Rialto in January – February 2011.

Currently Ms. Myrbo is the 3D Artist-in-Residence at The Weber School in Sandy Springs, Georgia. Myrbo directed the annual scrimmage of the Art Throwdown in the Atlanta Dogwood Festival for a decade, the Spruill Center for the Arts Summer Art Camp from 2002 – 2004, the Atlanta High School Art Exhibition (AHSAE) from 1999 – 2017, and Creation Station for the Atlanta Arts Festival from 2011 – 2015. Myrbo taught for the Fulton County Arts Council residency program and the Atlanta Partnership for the Arts in Learning (APAL), conducting workshops and residencies across Atlanta for a decade.

Ms. Myrbo served on the Boards of Directors of the Atlanta Dogwood Festival, StreetStage, Atlanta, and the Arts Exchange, SECCC.

Myrbo collaborates with her husband Tim Settimi in their longstanding partnership, Oquidoqui Artists, and new partnership SeMyWare. Their clay, painting and mural work can be found in Georgia, Florida, California and Minnesota.

Lisa Whittington

Lisa Whittington is a native of New York City where she learned to take a provocative approach to art and is dedicated to creatively documenting the history and stories of African American people. She delivered a TED talk entitled “What Does Art Want With You?” in which she encourages artists to explore a deeper purpose for creating. Her art won best in show at Atlanta Airport in 2020 and she was recognized by Saatchi Art gallery in 2021 as one of the 100 new powerful artistic voices across the nation. Her art has been featured in Architectural Digest’s ‘Iconic Home’ project and was recognized as an artist with a powerful voice. Recently an anonymous donor rented advertising space in NYC and honored Lisa with a hand painted mural that recreated one of her paintings on a wall in Brooklyn. Executive producers Kevin Durant and Reggie Rock Bythwood tapped Lisa as the motion title artist for the television series “Swagger” and used one of her paintings as inspiration and the color palette for the show. Lisa Whittington is also an artist and teacher working in Atlanta and is a member of the Black Artists and Designers Guild.
